When did the Regency Crisis happen?
Late 1788 to early 1789
What happened to the king in 1788?
The king had a bout of madness from his Porphyria
What change did the Foxites want?
They wanted to usurp Pitt and become the leading party in the government
What was Prince Georges reputation?
He was a massive gambler who would constantly go to the government to cover his debts, which was illegal at the time and was unpopular because of his decision to marry a Catholic
What did the Foxites want with Prince George?
The Foxites tried to warm up to him so that when he becomes Prince Regent he would grant them favours and help them take over the government and kick Pitt out of the government.
What was Pitts reaction to the Foxites actions with Prince George?
Pitt knew they wanted him gone so he made the Regency Bill which limited the Regents power, such as the ability to elect new peers, which the Foxites were mad about.
What was the Foxites reaction to the Regency Bill?
The Foxites were mad and tried to stop it, but only delayed it till the end of 1788.
Why was the Regency Bill never implemented?
In its last stages in February the King made a quick recovery, removing the need for the Bill
What was. the Kings reaction to the Bill?
He was mad at the Foxites for trying to take power away from him, and was pleased and proud of Pitt for staying by his side and trying to defend his power.
