Reflective Writing Flashcards
What is Kolb’s Learning Cycle?
“Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience” Kolb 1984. p 38. Commonly quoted as “Learning by Doing.”
The cycle goes as following:
Concrete experience; a new experience or situation is encountered, or an interpretation of existing experience.
Reflective observation of new experience; of particular importance are inconsistencies between experience and understanding.
Abstract conceptualisation; reflection gives rise to a new idea or modification of existing abstract.
Active experimentation; where the learner applies this new idea(s) to and try them out to see what happens.
What is Gibb’s Reflective cycle?
- Description - what happened?
- Feelings - What were you thinking and feeling?
- Evaluation - What was good and bas about the experience?
- Analysis - What sense can you make of the situation?
- Conclusion - What else could you have done?
- Action plan - If it arose again what would you do?
What is Borton’s developmental framework?
A simple form of quick reflection.
- What?
- So What?
- Now What?
