What is the Swiss cheese model?
In the Swiss cheese model, an organisation’s defenses against failure are modeled as a series of barriers, represented as slices of cheese. The holes in the slices represent weaknesses in individual parts of the system and are continually varying in size and position across the slices.

- Readiness to learn – Our readiness to learn becomes more oriented to the developmental tasks of our social and work related roles.
- Orientation to Learning – As adults, our perspective changes from one of postponed application of knowledge to immediate application, and as such our orientation shifts from one of subject-centered to one of problem-centered.
- Motivation to Learn – As we mature, the motivation to learn is internal
