What is the Reed Monitor and where is it located?

A
  • The Reed Monitor protects the traction and auxiliary systems from potentially harmful irregularities from the OLE or disturbances from the system itself
  • Located in the PTOSLW

What are a drivers actions if the Reed Monitor is activated?

A

[When the Reed Monitor is activated, the VCB will open and TMS will display a RED fault]

  • If possible stop at the next station and inform the signaller of Reed Monitor activation
  • the signaller will confirm with the ECO if there is an issue with the OLE, if so the driver may be instructed to do a ‘Pan Reset’ and continue as normal or drop the pan immediately

What are a drivers actions if the Reed Monitor fails?

A

[RED fault will display on TMS- ‘Device Failure: Reed Monitor”]

  • If possible stop at the next station
  • Immediately inform signaller of defective Reed Monitor
  • Inform MTRC control and Siemens Depot
  • A clear route must be arranged to a location where the train can be taken out of service (Ideally depot or terminus station)
  • If in service, detrain passengers

[Once clear route has been confirmed]:
- Operate ‘Isolation Reed Monitor’ button- located in the MCB cupboard of PTOSLW (opposite the toilet)
[VCB will close for 30minutes in order to clear the line before it will reopen permanently]
