Redox Reaction UNIT 2 Flashcards
0
Q
What does an oxidising agent do
A
Accepts electrons and gets reduced
1
Q
What is a redox reaction
A
When electrons are transferred. Oxidation is a loss of electrons, reduction is a gain of electrons. Oxidation and reduction take place simultaneously hence the term ‘redox’.
2
Q
What do Reducing agents do
A
They donate electrons and get oxidised
3
Q
What do Roman numerals in a chemical name represent
A
The oxidation number
4
Q
What do ionic half equations show
A
Oxidation and reduction
You can combine half equations for different oxidising or reducing agents together to make full equations for redox reactions
5
Q
What always appears in a half equation that does not appear in a full equation
A
The electrons
