Recruitment And Adaption Testing Flashcards
What is loudness recruitment
It is the subjective sensation of loudness that builds up at a more rapid rate than normal as sound intensity increases.
What is Fowlers alternate binaural balance test?
- ABLB
- limited to unilateral impairment
- tone introduced to good ear then bad ear
- tone increase and decreased until patient reports it is equally loud in both ears
- continue in 20dB intervals
What is short increment sensitivity tests?
- SISI
- small changes in intensity are not usually detected near threshold
- several dBs are needed before loudness increases unless suffering cochlea damage
- every 5 secs tone rises by 1dB for 1/5 second
- 20 tones presented and count number recognised and times 5 for percentage
- if 0-30% = normal ME or retrocochlea
- if 60-100% = cochlea disorder
What is tone decay?
It could indicate a retro cochlea problem
- tone decay is normal with all heating to an extent as any signal help for a while will start to fade
- rapid decay may signify a retro cochlea disorder
What is caarhaarts tone decay test?
- present tone at patients threshold and time how long signal is audible
- if audible for 60 secs then no tone decay
- if tone fades, stop clock, increase intensity and continue process till patient hears tone for full 60 seconds
- difference between original threshold and new threshold is used to express degree of decay in dab
- minimum of two frequencies at 1k and 4K
What is Bekesy audiometry
- patients records own thresholds
- two tones tested - continuous and interrupted
- interpretation involves comparison of 2 tracing results.
Results =
1. Both tracings the same = conductive or normal hearing
2. Continuous tone diff to hear in high frequencies = cochlea disorder
3. Can’t maintain continuous tone = retro cochlea
What is evoked response audiometry?
-There is electrical response (too invasive)
- auditory brain stem response (non invasive)
- cortical response audiometry (detects stimulus up to brain)
