What is Job analysis?
Where a firm thinks in depth about every little detail of the job in question.
What is Job description?
Includes the formal title of the job, the main purpose of the job, the main duties plus any occasional duties. It will also state who the job holder will report to, and whether they will be responsible for any other job.
What is person specification?
Lists the qualifications, experience, skills and attitudes needed for the job.
What is Internal Recruitment?
Involves recruiting current employees into new roles. The job position is advertised within the company.
What is External Recruitment?
Involves recruiting from outside the business. The job can be advertised in lots of places.
What are the Advantages of Internal Recruitment?
It’s much cheaper, the post can be filled more quickly, the candidates will already know a lot about the firm.
What are the Disadvantages of Internal Recruitment?
There will be no new ideas and the employee’s move will leave a vacancy to fill.
What are the Advantages of External Recruitment?
The job advert will be seen by more people, so it’s more likely the firm will find someone really suited to the job.
What are the Disadvantages of External Recruitment?
It’s very expensive. So only specialist and senior jobs get advertised in the national press.
How can getting the right people result to High Productivity?
A person with the right skills and qualities for the job may only need minimal training and will be more productive than someone without these skills and qualities.
How can getting the right people result to High Quality Output?
People with the best skills will make high quality products.
How can getting the right people result to Good Customer Service?
People well-suited to their role and who enjoy their job will provide better customer service.
How can getting the right people result to Staff retention?
Firms want to hold on to staff so that they don’t have to keep recruiting people to replace them. If a person is recruited and finds out that the job isn’t suited to them may leave.
What is a CV?
A summary of one person’s personal details, skills, qualifications and interests. Written in a standard format to give the firm the basic facts.
What are Application Forms?
Give the firm the information it wants and nothing else. Much quicker and more relevant than open ended letters.
