republican, hired andrew johnson to make border states happy during war, 10% plan (10% of each state has to take a loyaly oath to be remitted into the us, but congress stepped in, but lincoln pocket vetoed it.
what was the 10% plan
10% of each state has to take a loyalty oath the rejoin
what did congress do with the 10% plan
they made the wade-davis bill, they need 50% of each state to take the loyalty oath, they have to denounce the south but lincoln pocket vitoed it.
13th amendment
abolished slavery, all of the southern states have to ratify this to rejoin the union, but there wasn’t any economic support of rights given to the freed slaves.
what was the freedmen’s bureau
provided economic relief, education and labor contracts to african americans and poor southerners, redistrubutes abandoned land to freed slaves, plantatin debt thing.
andrew johnson
he didn’t think that the south ever left so they don’t need to be punished, feels the freedmens bureau is not nessesarry, approves black codes which denies basic civil rights to blacks, fires edwin even when he is not supposed to, found not guilty.

thinks south must be punished, freed slaves should have rights, passed laws to limit presidents power (tenure of office act)
14th amendment
gives african amiercans the right to vote (males)
