Recentering Social Institutions and the Transformation to a Physically Active Society Flashcards
Recentering Social Institutions Framework
Focuses on obligations of a society, as a whole, in order to shift towards a society that is fully engaged in PA
Framework consists of 3 elements: ***
1) Developing individual responsibilities
2) Changing intra-institutional norms (within)
3) Changing inter-institutional collaboration (everyone and society)
* Assumption: transformation to a PA society requires changes in the 3 elements
1) Developing individual responsibilites
-ppl must actively engage in the change process by accomplishing two objectives:
I) taking personal control over one’s own health
II) Developing citizenship skills = a commitment to collective action that is in the best interest of society as a whole
2) Changing intra-institutional norms
Changing the norms promoted by our social institutions and changing the social and physical environment
-social norms change when ppl think and do things differently b/c they believe others think they are doing things differently
- *Need to focus on:
- norms of active living, norms of social equity, norms of institutional collaboration (KNOW EXAMPLES)
