In Upper Canada?
A
Land speculators took good land because the govt sold the good land cheaply to them. Woodland took a couple years to clear before the colonists could start farming. Mortgaging future crops was common. Road building was blocked by crown and clergy reserve land. Colonists couldn’t travel to markets easily.
