empathetic understanding of human behaviour. a goal of interpretivist research so that they truly understand the point of view of the person being interviewed.
reflexivity

an awareness that values will always have an affect on research findings. the goal of the researcher would be to reflect on how their values have affected the findings. eg a male researcher may check with a female worker while researching women. this improves validity.
