p. 83.1 quia hostēs praedam ingentem terrā in nostrā capiunt, Amphitruō ulcīscī uult. cum exercitū igitur ē castrīs in hostium agrum proficīscitur.
Because the enemy are taking (a) huge (amount of) plunder in our land, Amphitruo wants to take revenge. With his army, therefore, he sets out from (his) camp into the territory of the enemy [lit. enemies].
p. 83.2 Amphitruō, uir summā uirtūte, per lēgātōs hostīs praedam reddere iubet; at hostēs, uirī saeuī, multa exercituī nostrō minantur:
Amphitruo, a man of the highest courage, through ambassadors orders the enemy [lit. enemies] to return the plunder; but the enemy [lit. enemies], savage men, make many threats at our army.
p. 83.3 ‘cauēte! nōlīte manēre in terrā nostrā! nōlīte nōs adloquī! nōlīte pugnāre!
“Beware! Do not remain in our land! Do not address us! Do not fight!”
p. 83.4 ‘mālētis enim statim abīre quam in agrō manēre, quia capiēmus uōs omnīs et seruōs faciēmus!
“For you will prefer to depart at once (rather) than to remain in our land, because we will take all of you and we will make (you) slaves!”
p. 84.5 ‘nūllam uictōriam cīuibus uestrīs nūntiāre poteritis, hominēs miserī! abīte! nōlīte redīre!’
“You will be able to announce no victory to your citizens, wretched men! Do not return!”
p. 84.6 Amphitruō deōs precātur ac exercitum hortātur et in proelium dūcit. longum est proelium exercituī, atque saeuum.
Amphitruo prays to the gods and encourages his army and leads (it) into battle. Long is the battle for the army, and savage.
p. 84.7 tandem uictōriam magnam adipīscuntur nostrī uirī.
Finally our men acquire a great victory.
p. 84.8 lēgātī hostium miserī ex oppidō proficīscuntur et in castra nostra cum praedā multā et multā pecūniā ineunt.
The ambassadors of the enemy [lit. enemies], miserable [miserably], set out from the town and come into our camp with much booty and much money.
p. 84.9 rēs omnīs nōbis dant et redeunt.
The give [to] us all (their) things and they return.
