Reading errors Flashcards
The three main types of reading errors?
1-The grapho/phonic system
2-The semantic system
3-The syntactic system
The grapho/phonic system?
Words that are exchanged are similar in spelling or sound
The grapho/phonic system similarities?
1-High similarity -Waist/wrist 2-Partial similarity -present/patient 3-Little/no similarity -usual/surface
The semantic system?
Words that are exchanged have an acceptable degree of meaning similarity. (The content of the message isn’t affected)
The semantic system acceptabilities?
1-High semantic acceptability -Violent/volcanic 2-Partial semantic acceptability -Pigeons/penguins 3-Poor semantic acceptability -Pigeons/pigments
The syntactic system?
Words that are exchanged are grammatical in the context of the sentence.
The semantic system miscues?
1-Grammatically appropriate miscues -(send him as a) present->patient 2-Grammatically inappropriate miscues -(both) sides (of his face) ->besides.
In skilled readers, miscues tend to be…?
more syntactically and semantically appropriate
Skilled readers miscue but…..?
the content doesn’t change and mistakes are mostly of a grapho/phonic nature only.
In unskilled readers, miscues are often….?
syntactically and semantically inappropriate.
Unskilled readers might not….?
understand the message of the text and they also make grapho/phonic AND syntactic and semantic mistakes.
