Describe the flowpath of heat through the reactor system
Reactor heats primary coolant. Primary coolant heats secondary water inside the steam generators. Secondary water turns to steam. Steam performs work on major steam loads (SSTG, CTG, Main Engines, Catapult, Reboiler). Steam is condensed into water. Water is fed to DFT. Then fed through Main Feed Pumps. Main Feed Pump feeds water back to steam generators.
Classify our reactors
A4W (Aircraft carrier, 4th generation, Westinghouse
State the locations of Main Engines
1,4 in 1MMR and 2,3 in 2MMR
Location of CTG’s
1,2 in 1RAR and 3,4 in 2RAR
Location of SSTG’s
1,2 in 1MMR and 3,4 in 2MMR
Ratings of SSTG’s
4160 volts, 1388 Amps, 3 phase, 8MW, 60HZ
Ratings of CTG’s
4160 volts, 1388 Amps, 3 phase, 8MW, variable frequency
Purpose of Deaerating Feed Tanks
- Removes oxygen and other gases by creating a steam blanket over water and heating it in the tank to prevent corrosion
- Creates a net-positive suction head to prevent cavitation
Classify Main Engines
Double Helical, Double Reduction, Folded, Articulated, Locked Train
How much water do the distilling units produce
100,000 gallons per day each, 400,000 gallons per day total
Purpose of reboilers
- Prevents contaminated steam from returning and contaminating main steam system
- Prevent potentially radiologically contaminated steam from contaminating rest of ship
Name a load of the reboiler
Galley, Hot Potable Water, Scullery, Laundry
