Q

Describe the flowpath of heat through the reactor system

A

Reactor heats primary coolant. Primary coolant heats secondary water inside the steam generators. Secondary water turns to steam. Steam performs work on major steam loads (SSTG, CTG, Main Engines, Catapult, Reboiler). Steam is condensed into water. Water is fed to DFT. Then fed through Main Feed Pumps. Main Feed Pump feeds water back to steam generators.

12
Q

Purpose of Deaerating Feed Tanks

A
  1. Removes oxygen and other gases by creating a steam blanket over water and heating it in the tank to prevent corrosion
  2. Creates a net-positive suction head to prevent cavitation
