What does double reduction do?
Reduces speed of turbines
What is the purpose of the Deaerating feed pumps?
- Removes oxygen to minimize corrosion
- Pressurizes water to prevent the formation of vapor air bubbles

Why is the CTG variable frequency?
So that the output can raise or lower depending on how hard the reactor is working

What is the primary and secondary purpose of the EDG’s?
Primary- Provide power to the reactor fill pump in case of CTG failure
Secondary- Provide back up power in case of SSTG failure

-All 4 SSTG’s are supplying electricity to the ring bus
How does the electric plant utilize redundancy?
- 4 and 2 are powered by 4s and 2s
- 3 and 1 are powered by 4s and 1s
When in port what is the electric plant line up?
Aft shore power and Fwd shore power, no redundancy
What do cross connected steam plants mean?
-1 Reactor provides steam to both plants
What are split steam plants?
Both reactors are powering respective steam plants independently

-Rapid Emergency Shutdown of reactors
How does Restricted Maneuvering affect Reactor?
- Steam Plant casualty response is delayed
- Reactor Plant casualty response is normal
How much water does each distilling unit make?

Describe the purpose of our steam generator?
To take the heat from primary coolant and transfer it to the feed water to be used on steam loads
What is the responsibility of the Load Dispatcher?
In charge of monitoring the electrical lineup of the plant
What is the responsibility of the WCW?
- Water Control Watch
- Coordinates with in plant watch standers to maintain optimal water levels for the ship
What is the responsibility of the PPWO?
In charge of the propulsion plants and reports directly to the EOOW
Where does the PPWO stand watch?
The Enclosed Operating Station

Directly controls SSTG’s
