Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
Surface area
The greater the surface area, the faster the rate of reaction. There are more sites for collision
What does the rate of reaction depend on?
The FREQUENCY of the collisions between particles
The ENERGY with which the particles collide
Temperature
Increasing temperature means:
•particles have more KE so move around faster and collide more frequently
•a greater proportion of particles have enough energy to overcome the Ea so more collisions are successful
Activation energy
The minimum amount of energy needed for particles to react. It is different for each reaction.
Catalyst
Something that speeds up a reaction without being used up in the process
Concentration definition
The number of particles in a given formula
Concentration (rates)
The more concentrated a solution is, the more particles there are so there are more frequent collisions
