RAPD Flashcards
1
Q
What is the eponym for RAPD?
A
Marcus-Gunn pupil
2
Q
Where is the lesion that causes a RAPD?
A
anterior to the optic chiasm i.e. optic nerve or retina
3
Q
Finding on swinging light test
A
light shone on unaffected eye = both constrict
light shone on affected eye = both pupils will dilate slightly as not afferent signal can reach the brain to tell them to constrict
4
Q
Causes of RAPD
A
retina: detachment
optic neuritis e.g. multiple sclerosis
5
Q
Describe the afferent pathway of the pupillary light reflex
A
retina → optic nerve → lateral geniculate body → midbrain
6
Q
Describe the efferent pathway of the pupillary light reflex
A
Edinger-Westphal nucleus (midbrain) → oculomotor nerve
