CRVO Flashcards
1
Q
Risk factors for CRVO
A
increasing age
hypertension
cardiovascular disease
glaucoma
polycythaemia
2
Q
How does CRVO usually present?
A
Sudden painless loss of vision
3
Q
Key findings on fundoscopy
A
widespread hyperaemia
severe retinal haemorrhages - ‘stormy sunset’
4
Q
Key differential to CRVO
A
branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO)
- vein in the distal retinal venous system is occluded
- due to blockage of retinal veins at arteriovenous crossings
=> more limited area of fundus affected.
5
Q
Management of CRVO
A
Most are managed conservatively
6
Q
Indications for treatment in CRVO
A
- macular oedema
- Give intravitreal anti-VEGF - retinal neovascularization - use laser photocoagulation
