RAM Flashcards
ROM
Read Only Memory - Can only be read
PROM
Programable read only memory - can be programmed / written once.
EPROM
Erasable PROM , can be erased and written again
EEPROM
Flash memory
SRAM
Static RAM, docent need refreshing (very expensive) used often in processor cache memory.
DRAM
Dynamic RAM , Requires a constant refreshing to maintain data.
SDRAM
Synchronous with the common system clock (most common)
DDR
Double Data Rate, twice the data rate of SDRAM used often in processor cache.
DDR2
2x the bus clock multiplier of DDR
DDR3
4x the bus clock multiplier of DDR
How do you work out the peak transfer rate of RAM?
times the Data rate x 8
Parity memory
additional parity bit, can’t correct and error
ECC Memory
Detects errors & corrects on the fly, (used ideally for servers)
Multichannel memory
Installed in pairs or trios for maximum throughput, each memory channel has identical colours.
