BIOS
is used to configure the boot order, enable and disable components, supported by non-volatile memory, the CMOS, should be backed up before being flashed.
South-bridge
supports lesser speed components such as the I/O , CMOS, PCI and CPU
North-bridge
supports high speed components such as the RAM, PCIe and AGP and CPU
