RAID STORAGE Flashcards
1
Q
Redundant Array of Independent Disk
RAID
A
- Different RAID levels
- Some redundant, some not
- RAID 0 = Striping
- RAID 1 = Mirroring
- RAID 5 = Striping with parity
- Nested RAID = RAID 1 + 0 (RAID 10)
2
Q
Software RAID
A
- A feature of the operating system
- Doesn’t require any special hardware
- Usually lower-performance than hardware based RAID
3
Q
Hardware RAID
A
-A feature of the hard drive controller
- Configured outside the OS
- Usually invisible to operating syatem
-Higher performance, designed for speed
4
Q
RAID 0
A
-File blocks are split between TWO OR MORE physical drives
- High performance
- Data written quickly
- No redundancy
- Drive failure breaks the array
5
Q
RAID 1
A
-File blocks are duplicated between TWO OR MORE drives
- High disk utilization
- Every file is duplicated
- Required space is doubled
- High redundancy
- Drive failure DOES NOT affect availability
6
Q
RAID 5
A
- Fire blocks are stiped
- Along with parity blocks
- Need at least 3 disk
- Efficient use of disk space / Files not duplicated
- High redundancy / Data available after fail
7
Q
RAID 1 + 0
RAID 10
A
- The speed of striping & redundancy of mirroring
- Needs at least 4 drives
