Radios (PRC149, URT140 & PRQ7) Flashcards
PRC149: Functional description and application
AN/PRC149 are non-combat radios that combine an AM (Amplitude Modulation) voice receiver at selectable frequencies of 121.5 MHz, 243.0 MHz and 282.8 MHz with a multi-modes personal locator beacon that transmits at 121.5 MHz and 243.0 MHz. In the 406.025 MHz only mode, each transmit a digital message to COSPAS-SARSAT satellites
PRC-149: What is the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system?
A system capable of reduced accuracy (1.1 nm), based on doppler without GPS data. It has the ability to provide beacon location coordinates
PRC-149: What are the differences between AN/PRC-149 and AN/PRC-149A?
PRC-149 vs PRC-149A: Hardware: antenna wrap around, vs folding; GPS antenna, trimble vs. More robust Aero Antenna-Mil Spec; Labels: Commercial standard vs. Scratch resistant; Other Software differences.
PRC-149: How are the Battery Shelf and Service Life calculated?
The shelf and service lives of the battery are measured from the date of manufactured and the date place in service in respectively
AN/PRC-149: If the embedded GPS receiver
has acquired a position fix, then an even more
accurate location of the beacon (within ____ft) is
made available to the SAR forces.
300 ft
AN/PRC-149: 121.5 MHz IS WHAT FREQUENCY?
Civilian Emergency Frequency
AN/PRC-149: 243.0 MHz IS WHAT FREQUENCY?
Military Emergency Frequency
AN/PRC-149: 406.025 MHz IS WHAT FREQUENCY?
International Emergency Message Frequency
AN/PRC-149: 251.9 MHz is what frequency?
Training Radio Frequency.
This frequency is used only in the
AN/PRC-149-T1 and AN/PRC-149A-T1 training
radios. All other frequencies listed above are
disabled when this frequency is in use
AN/PRC-149: Frequency Stability. 121.5 MHZ
Does not vary by more than 30 Parts Per Million (PPM) over a five-year period including temperature, initial setting and aging effects.
AN/PRC-149: batteries are capable of
providing operation without degradation in the
406 MHz Beacon mode for a minimum of _____hours
48 hours
AN/PRC-149: at minus 20 degrees Centigrade (-20°C or -4°F) or in the Triple Frequency Beacon mode for ____ hours
24 hours
AN/PRC-149: Maintenance BIT: The operator initiates this mode while the Mode Control Switch is in the GPS position. The operator starts the test by _____ ?
depressing the volume up and down control buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds or until the Beacon (BCN) LED display turns on
AN/PRC-149: Mode Selector Switch Position 1 is___?
GPS MODE
AN/PRC-149: Mode Selector Switch Position 2 is?
Voice mode
AN/PRC-149: GPS Position acquisition might take____ minutes.
2 minutes
AN/PRC-149: The GPS receiver is turned off after acquisition, and then powered ON every ____ minutes and left powered ON until a valid position
fix is acquired again
20 minutes
AN/PRC-149: Mode Selector Switch Position 3 is?
406 BCN
AN/PRC-149: Mode Selector Switch Position 4 is
TRIPLE BCN
AN/PRC-149: MAINTENANCE BIT: 2 blinks followed by 5 seconds off indicate a ______?
Battery failure
AN/PRC-149: 3 blinks followed by 5 seconds
off indicate a _____ ?
RF Output Level failure
AN/PRC-149: 4 blinks followed by 5 seconds
off indicate a failure in the ______?
AM receiver
AN/PRC-149: TRUE OR FALSE
