NAVAIR 00-80T-101 Flashcards
What is covered in the NAVAIR 00-80T-101 Part 3, chapter 8?
NATOPS parachuting
What two types of EGRESS?
Manual bailout method and ejection method
Describe the MILITARY TUCK POSITION.
Legs, knees and feet are held tightly together while the arms are held tightly across the chest. Right hand used to pull ripcord. It prevents possible entanglement with suspension lines during parachute deployment
Describe the Pull Down Vent (PDV) lines system.
Consists of two lines, shorter than the suspension lines, one end attached to each connector link and other to the apex of the canopy. As tension is applied to the PDV lines, the apex of the canopy is pull down, aiding canopy inflation. As full load is applied, the weak links break, allowing the apex to return to normal position
What are the five most common parachute malfunctions?
Partial line over, full-line over, streamers, line twist and torn panels
What is streamers and how it can be remedied?
Usually caused by static electricity which can hold hem of the canopy skirt closed. It can be corrected by grasping the left and right risers ans shaking rapidly from side to side, distorting the canopy skirt and allowing air to enter the canopy. Or grasping the left and right risers puling down and releasing in a rapid seesaw motion
What is LINE TWIST and how can it be corrected?
Suspension lines are twisted together between the risers and the canopy skirt. It can be corrected by grasping the left and right risers and force them apart
What is a TORN PANEL and what is the corrective action??
It occurs from high speed opening shock or line overs. There is no corrective action. Prepare for a hard landing. Never use your four-line release if you have a torn panel
What are the two methods of initiating parachute deployment?
Manual and automatic ripcord release systems
What are the only parachutes to have a secondary automatic release systems?
LW-3B, NES-19 and A/P28S
How to jettison the canopy when landing?
By releasing the parachute release fittings. Step 1: Lift up on covers of fittings, step 2: Pull down on exposed release bar, and step 3: release the fittings
If landing near or into power lines is unavoidable, what the aircrew must do?
Steer the parachute into the wind to reduce horizontal and vertical speeds. Streamline the body by extending the arms up along the inside of the front risers, hold feet and knees together with toes pointing downward and tilt the head to one side.
Describe the Parachute Landing Fall (PLF) position.
The PLF is accomplished by making first contact with balls of feet, then rolliig (or collapsing) to the right or left (in direction of parachute drift) onto side of calf, the thigh, then buttocks, and finally the shoulder.
If suspended in power line wires, what warning/precaution must be taken when rescuing aircrew member?
Use extreme precaution not to complete the circuit between high tension lines and ground. Do not touch aircrew member until power has been secured.
