Radiology / Ultrasound Flashcards
1
Q
Explain how to properly use the caliper
A
- the anatomical part is always measured at it’s thickest point
- the reading should be taken in centimeters, not inches
- the reading should be taken below the moveable bar, not above it
- measurements should never be eyeballed even by an experienced veterinary professional. The caliper should always be used to get a precise measurement
2
Q
What is a technique chart and what are its purposes?
A
A technique chart is a chart with predetermined X-ray machine settings that enables the radiographer to select the correct machine settings based on the thickness of tissue and of the anatomical portion of the body being radiographed. The purposes are:
- save time when preparing for the procedure by making small calculations readily available
- decrease unnecessary additional staff and patient radiation exposure that occurs when radiographs must be repeated due to improper film exposure
- limit the waste of film that results from the occurrence of repeated radiographs
3
Q
Identify and explain all positions for restraint Ventrodorsal
A
- Lateral: the animal lays on it’s right side so that the beam enters the left
- Ventral-Dorsal-(V/D): the animal is laying on it’s back in dorsal recumbent positioning, and the beam will enter the ventral aspect of the abdomen and exit the dorsal.
- Dorsal-Ventral(D/V): the animal is in sternal recumbency (back upwards, abdomen on table), the beam enters the dorsal surface and exits the ventral surface.
- Anterior-Posterior (A/P): the patient’s leg is flat on the x-ray table with the paw down. The beam will enter and exit the patient’s carpus.
4
Q
Demonstrate knowledge of proper handling, embosssing and processing of exposed radiographic film
A
-Hold the film by its top corner, never touch anywhere else on the film.
