Radiography of the head and neck Flashcards
What is Jefferson’s fracture?
A fracture of C1 usually involving both the anterior and posterior arches
Mechanism of injury: axial loading
Not associated with neurologic deficits usually
What is Hangman’s Fracture?
Fracture separates the posterior aspect of C2 from the anterior aspect of C2, leading to overall widening of the bony canal
Most common fracture of cervical spine
Cause by high-velocity hyperextension
Usually not associated with neurologic deficits
What is the flex-teardrop fracture?
Caused by hyper flexion-compression
Teardrop fragment comes from anteroinferior aspect of the vertebra body
Spinal cord compression from vertebral body displacement can cause neurological deficits or paralysis
