Rabies Flashcards
1
Q
Rabies virus pathogenesis
A
Enters through skin wound or mucosal surfaces
Replicates in muscles and neuromuscular junction and will move into CNS
Can incubate for 3 months or in rare cases a year
2
Q
Rabies treatment
A
*Vaccination: hot lasts 2 years and takes 2 weeks after shot to grow immunity. *PEP - antibodies from vaccinated blood donors, provides passive immunity
3
Q
Rabies Baltimore
A
-ssRNA brings polymerase with it to make mRNA
4
Q
Rabies Virion
A
M-matrix G-glycoprotein, receptor binding P- polymerase phosphoprotein N-nucleocapsid L-RdRp
5
Q
Rabies entry
A
receptor is nAchR, travels retrograde towards CNS so uses dyenin motor protein.
will eventually kill neuron b/c disrupts cell trafficking
6
Q
Rabies clinical
A
by the time symptoms appear its too late. hydrophobia, treatment is supportive not cured
