Rabies virus pathogenesis

A

Enters through skin wound or mucosal surfaces
Replicates in muscles and neuromuscular junction and will move into CNS
Can incubate for 3 months or in rare cases a year

Rabies treatment

A

*Vaccination: hot lasts 2 years and takes 2 weeks after shot to grow immunity. *PEP - antibodies from vaccinated blood donors, provides passive immunity

receptor is nAchR, travels retrograde towards CNS so uses dyenin motor protein.
will eventually kill neuron b/c disrupts cell trafficking
