R-point Flashcards
1
Q
How does a cell pass the R-point?
A
The R-point can be passed
-using a mitogenic signal which allows the cell to start to grow and proceed to enter the cell cycle
2
Q
What are the two options a cell can take after it is formed?
A
- Enter a non-growing state: G0
- Divide and make more cells
3
Q
What controls the R-point?
A
Retinoblastoma protein (Rb)
4
Q
What is needed for further progression from the R-point?
A
Active E2F TFs
5
Q
What keeps E2F inactive during the R-point?
A
E2Fs are locked onto the Hypo-phosphorylated Rb (Retinoblastoma protein), preventing the E2Fs expressing genes to code for the required cyclins for cell cyclin advancement
