- Macbeth is seen in high regard by the king and the people he is surrounded by because he is “brave”
- ” he is deserves that name”- he has been fighting for the king as a worthy valiant soldier
- Also shows how the king were terrible at judging others character as they based it on bravery and not other quality such as trustworthy or honesty
- A man’s worth is based on bravery, suggests patriarchy
- Foreshadowing Macbeth killing Duncan as he is so brave he can do things other characters can’t like treason

Scene 4 act 1
- light is a metaphor for people , or God
- he has desires even before meeting lady macbeth…dark desires meaning to do things which are bad …which are killing Duncan (treason) 🔪
- the desires are deep inside him …these thoughts are not insignificant , they overwhelm and flood macbeths mind
- we learn about the power of the supernatural…it changed Macbeth who is seen as brave and good , within one scene were able to transform his entire character
- the supernatural is a catalyst to macbeths character change

Act 1 Scene 7
- this quote shows the danger of patriarchy as macbeth had to be a courageous and brave man to everyone and in the eyes of his wife
- lady macbeth knows that and plays on it by immaculateing macbeth when he was having doubts on killing Duncan 🗡

Act 2 Scene 2
- macbeth has blood all over his hands (blood represents guilt)
- he is carrying his guilt in his own hands
- when he kills Duncan he feels bad but as human nature the more we do it , the more normal it becomes
- macbeth is used to killing for the army and for the right reason …not used to killing the king (his ambition is so great he is willing to do this which no one else would do)
- macbeth almost becomes emotionless 😑

Act 5 Scene 2
- you can never catch your shadow , you’re always chasing your shadow
- shadow represents power..ambition..titles..kingship
- macbeth is always chasing power..ambition..titles…kingship but can never catch it
- he first wanted to be king …then he wanted to kill banquo and fleeonce so that his lineage to be king..its a constant pursuit
- for the first time macbeth questions himself

- Lady macbeth is telling macbeth to be dishonest and not to be loyal
- flower symbolises nature as macbeth is trying to change nature(fate)
- serpent symbolises dishonesty and betrayal as lady macbeth wants him to be dishonest inorder for him to be king
“Full of scorpions is my mind”-macbeth
Act 2 Scene 3
- scorpions are eating away at his mind
- foreshadows his downfall and him going insane
- he is possessed by his hunger for power

- shows that good is bad and bad is good
- brave and heroic macbeth at the start becomes insane and deceptive man
- beautiful and honest lady macbeth becomes manipulate and ugly in character

Act 1 Scene 3
- instruments are used to play with ..like how the witches play with macbeth and banquo later on
- foreshadows evil …and something is bad is going to happen later on
- the withes do tell truths , but they only tell him truths just to lure macbeth in to betray him later on
