Q

How many stages are there in glycolysis and what happens in them in short?

A

There are two stages to Glycolysis

Stage 1:
- Preparation stage (reaction 1 to 5) Glucose is phosphorylated and converted to fructose which is again phosphorylated and cleavated into two molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. For this to occur there is an investment of two molecules of ATP.

Stage 2:
- Finishing stage (reactions 6 - 10) The two molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate are converted to pyruvate and 4 ATP and 2 NADH are created.
