Scaphoid injury to distal 1/3, worry about which issue?
The blood supply to the scaphoid penetrates the cortex on the dorsal surface near the tubercle waist area (distal aspect of scaphoid). Therefore, there is no direct blood supply to the proximal portion of the bone. Because of this tenuous blood supply, scaphoid fractures have a tendency to develop avascular necrosis (AVN).
