Questions & Answers: Sky Matsuhashi Flashcards
Ultimate Question:
“What are they doing this with?”
6 clues
- Player type (VPIP/PFR) and history: anything against player type is a blinking light so caution
- Preflop range and board interaction: how well do they hit the board?
- Play-related stats (eg, cbetting OOP; 4bet% by position when 3betting
- Action and sizing: 3bets are more powerful, larger 2/3 pots+
- Pot size/stack size: if they appear committed bluff less
- Think back to how you arrived here: did you get here by 2bet, 3bet, calling, cbet, donk, etc?
General Question:
“What is the most important thought here?”
This will get you thinking about the right question to ask. For example: you can ask yourself “How often are the blinds folding? or “How can I get one of the blinds to call me or reraise as I have AA?”
General Question:
“Who is my target at this table?”
Your target, or ‘mark’ is the person you’re most likely to earn profits from. Can be multiple targets at a table
General Question:
“Am I in the right mindset to play?”
If you are cursing at your opponents, berating them, or just not thinking and automatic button-clicking then you are in the mindset to play ‘nuff said.
Preflop Question:
“Who is likely to 3bet me and how can I deter them from it?”
We normally lose money when we face a 3bet. Make better preflop open-raise decisions.
Preflop Question:
“Who open-raises too often, and do they fold to 3bets?”
Finding great targets for quick/easy 3bet bluffing profits can help pad your win rate and make you look ultra-aggressive.
Preflop Question:
“How will the remaining players respond?”
Forces us to consider how our call might influence the actions of others yet to act.
Postflop Question:
“How often do they fold/call/bet/raise?
Forces you to use your HUD and look at any notes you have on a player
Postflop Question:
“What is s/he betting/raising that I beat?”
Makes us think deeply about our opponent’s range before calling. Answer this with thought and logic.
Postflop Questions:
“What hands can I get to fold?” when bluffing
“What hands can give me value?” when value betting
If you want them to fold, you must be able to name hands in their range that they can fold. If you want value, they must have hands worthy of calling your bet.
