What are questionnaires?
They involve a pre-set list of written questions which the participant responds to.
Why are questionnaires used?
They are used as a part of an experiment to asses the dependant variable
What are the two types of questions?
Open and closed
What is a closed question?
It is a question which offers a fixed range of answers, they produce numerical data by limiting the answer the respondent can give. It is easy to analyse but may lack depth.
What is an open question?
Respondents are free to answer how they wish. They produce qualitative data that is in depth and in detail but is difficult to analyse.

Cost effective Gather large amounts of data Easy to analyse Can compare Can be complete without researcher
4 Limitations of questionnaires
Responses not always truthful
Respondents may present themselves in a positive way
Demand characteristics
Response bias- respondents tend to reply in a similar way
What is a likert scale
It is a scale where the respondent indicates their agreement to a statement. Usually 5 points.
What is a rating scale
This is where the respondent identifies a value that represents their strength of felling about a topic.
What is a fixed choice option
It includes a list of possible options the respondent are required to indicate which ones apply to them
