quantitative chapter 9 Flashcards
Numbers are represented as
Things
Isomorphism means
Identity or similarity of form
When you measure something with isomorphics, you have to ask how
Close is it tied to reality?
a likert scale is
strongly agree, agree, ect.
a latent variable can be
a composite score of a certain group of variables which collectively measure something
a semantic differential scale is
good - - - - - - - - - bad
what is trait behavior?
behavior that is assumed to be consistent across contexts and situations within specific constructs
what is state behavior?
changes from one situation to another within the context
what does the sclaograhm sclae measure, and how?
beliefs, asks a series of belief questions and starts like a likert scale
what is a germinal idea?
when you discover that something can be measured
what is operationalisation?
when you have a coding scheme to put your measured thing into a variable and its categories in order to represent its operational properties - how we get the concept to the variable
when creating questions, start with
twice as many items in your scale as you will need, use clear wording, construct short items, stay on topic, avoid emotionally loaded iteams, avoid answers which sound like you want to get a certain kind of answer from them, don’t ask questions about too far in the past
a parametric statistical test measures
population and makes assumptions about the data
a nonparametrical statistical test makes
no assumptions about the data
