What is control testing?
carried out by producer or material supplier during production to ensure acceptable quality of end product
What is compliance testing?
according to agreed plan, performed by engineer or client to ensure material compliance with specifications
What is secondary testing? (3)
- any testing conducted prior to production, during construction or in-service
- performed if control or compliance testing did not meet specifications or in case of doubt
- performed if original information is unavailable or re-assessment while in service
What are the general requirements of Master Format Division One? (4)
- submittals procedures
- shop drawings, product data and samples
- quality assurance
- quality control
Where is product/material specific QC/QA found?
in individual sections
What do control and compliance testing measure?
measure quality and uniformity of production in standard specimens
What does secondary testing measure? What is it representative of?
- measure of performance and integrity of material in-situ

a report with a series of test results performed in accordance with relevant standards
What is the report in control testing called?
a Mill Test Report or Certificate of Test
How can quality control testing be used?
can be used as evidence for compliance through reporting
When must the Mill Test Report/Certificate of Test be given?
must be given upon delivery of material
How is compliance/assurance testing performed?
contractor/3rd party client representative will perform a test on the material received to validate specified properties
What are the three types of compliance/assurance testing?
- visual condition survey of received material and validation of lot number
- standard testing onsite
- standard testing offsite
What is the purpose of compliance with specification? (5)
- follow-up to non-compliant result
- performance evaluation prior to handing over structure to client
- serviceability or troubleshooting problems of new or old structures
- material or structural flaws, defects, poor workmanship
- contractural disputes, litigations
