Prefabricated Wood Components Flashcards
What are prefabricated wood components?
wood components made in a factory setting and transported to the jobsite for installation
Why are prefabricated wood components used?
factory production eliminates weather-related delays and produces components that are efficient, precise, and consistent in quality
What are trusses?
light wood members joined with toothed/gusset plates
What are two advantages of trusses?
- long-span capability
- rapidly erected on site using light-duty cranes
Where are trusses typically used?
roofs and floors
How are trusses stored on site?
kept level, dry, and elevated
What are prefabricated panels? (2)
- sections of walls framed in a factory and shipped to the site
- includes framed panels, SSPs, and SIPs
What are two types of factory-built housing?
- manufactured home: built on towable chassis to U.S. HUD standards
- modular housing: built to code requirements of respective municipality
How wide is factory-built housing?
both types constructed in units no wider than 14-16 feet to permit transport on public roads/streets
What are manufactured homes? (3)
- built on towable chassis
- tires removed after transport
- skirting can be provided
What is modular housing? (2)
- modular construction can be placed side-by-side or stacked vertically to make a complete structure
- typically shipped to jobsite on a flatbed tractor-trailer
