What is qualitative data?
Data based on people’s opinions; looks at words and emotions rather than data and numbers
-summaries, focus groups, interviews, etc.
If a method is inductive?
It begins w/ a question, detailed reading of raw data to derive concepts, themes, or models
If a method is deductive?
Testing theory, generating hypothesis, emphasis on causality, prior assumptions
What are philosophical assumptions?
- ontological
- epistemological
- axiological
- methodological
Ontological assumptions?
Studies people w/ the intent of reporting these multiple realities
Epistemological assumptions?
Researchers get as close as possible to the participants being studies; conducted in the “field”
Axiological assumptions?
Value laden and actively reports their values and biases
Methodological assumptions?
