what is a flow chart?
maps out what occurs in a work process. Includes steps and sub-steps, and who does the work. These are good to map out steps or part of a process.
what is a pareto chart?
bar chart reflects frequency at which events occur or the effect events have on a process.
when do you use a pareto chart?
when analyzing data about the frequency of problems or causes in a process, when there are many problems and we want to focus on the most significant, and when analyzing broad causes by looking at specific components.
what is a cause and effect diagram?
lists potential causes arranged by category to show their effect on a problem, helps determine potential causes of a problem and possible solutions. This is the fishbone diagram that will be completed with you QI project.
what is a run chart?
graph of data points as they occur over time. Sometimes referred to as time plots. A control chart is more sophisticated run chart that helps to distinguish between “common” cause and “special” cause.
