Qaulity Assurance Flashcards
what are standard operating procedures?
written guidelines on how to perform a task to make sure everyone does it the same way, every time
what is IR(ME)R 2017 ?
protection of patients
what is IRR 2017?
protects staff and public but also deals with patient protection in relation to equipment.
Main role of employer?
establish QA programmes for standard operating procedures
ensure every practitioner and operator undertake CPD
How much CPD must you do?
5 hours every 5 years
What does the QA programme contain?
- Named person.
- Details of procedures involved.
- Frequency of procedures
- Frequency records will be audited.
**everything must be put in writing
**RPS normally in charge of overseeing compliance
How do you ensure high qaulity images?
image quality rating system
how does the image qaulity rating system work?
- Asses all images produced.
- Grade films by image quality (1,2 or 3).
- Collate results – analyse monthly, quarterly or at least evert 6 months.
- Feed-back results to staff.
What is the aim for image rating?
more than 95% rated acceptable
Number of films rated 1 should be more than 70%
Number of films rated 2 should be less than 20%
Number of films rated 3 should be less than 10%
what does reject film analysis do?
reduces/ eliminates films rates 3
- collects all 3 rated, categorise, act
What are the stages of the IQRS audit cycle?
assess
grade
results
feed-back
how often should equipment be checked?
every3 years but preferably annually
what should equipment checks include?
representative patient dose - radiation output
what does a box of films contain on packaging?
- size of film
- number of films
- best before date
- storage instructions
what are the storage instructions for films?
out of sunlight
away from radiation source
optimum humidity and temp
what are the erase rules for digital PSP?
If not used for more than 24hrs after plate erased (exposed to bright light), it should be erased again.
what is sensitometry?
main of checking performance
how do you check sensitometry?
check developer daily for exhaustion
what does exhaustion result in?
pale image
how do you check for an exhausted developer?
simple step-wedge test
ready exposed test film
what is a simple step-wedge test?
different thicknesses of metal – when it is radiographed will produce an image showing “steps” of blackening from pale grey to dark grey/black
where should you do a ready exposed test?
darkroom conditions or inside glove box
what are the advantages of step wedge?
cheaper
what are the disadvantages of step wedge?
operator variables cause discrepancies
variable results depending on viewer
what are the advantages of pre exposed exhaustion test?
easy to use
no discrepancies
results not dependant on viewer
what are the disadvantages of pre exposed exhaustion test?
expensive
what are causes of a fogged film?
light entering daylight loading system/ darkroom
safelight filter unsuitable for film or too close to worksurface
what are tests for fogged film?
coin test
what checks must be carried out on computer monitors?
check settings and resolution
what checks must be carried out on solid state sensors?
visual checks for physical damage weekly and radiograph monthly
what checks must be carried out for PSP?
visual check weekly and radiograph monthly
how do you check large digital sensors and extra-oral cassettes?
test tool
how may phosphor plates be damaged?
scratched
speck of dust on processor plate
what are local rules?
define which type of x-ray procedures are to be carried out within your designate controlled area and who has access to and is responsible for safety in each controlled area.
