Bullous Impetigo
Pustular dermatology
Enlarging non-follicular pustules, larger than typical transient pustules
Prefers puppies or immunocompromised, hyperadrenocorticism
Not pruritic
Starts in groin and axillae but can become generalized
Exfoliative Superficial Pyoderma
Lesions: erythematous, prutitic epidermal collarette (often groin, axillae)
Tx: Appropriate AB
Mucocutaneous Pyoderma
Relapsing dermatosis of unknown etiology Commonly affects lips and perilla skin Nasal planum and nares can be affected Lesions: crusting, fissuring, erosion, ulceration and focal depigmentation GSD increased risk Tx: oral AB
Post Grooming Furunculosis
Deep pyoderma
Acute development 24 - 48 hours after bathing or traumatic brushing
Painful, Dorsal trunk most common
Lesions: pustules, hemorrhagic Bullard and distulae
Systemic fever
Wired haired, large Breed dogs most common
Culture recommended - unpredictable susceptibility profile
Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome
Not considered form of pyoderma Lacks neutrophilic inflammation Usually staphylococci Lesions: marked pruritis, greasy seborrhea, offensive odor, erythema, lichenification, hyperpigmentation, excoriation, alopecia Most common on ventral body Papules and Pustules, EC absent Bacteria on skin surface only Closely resembles Malassezia dermatitis Tx: Topical AB
