Psoroptic mite Highest incidence in kittens Adults often asymptomatic carriers Dark brown to black waxy exudate Otoscope exam - white specks moving Cytology - mites, nymphs, larvae or ova Tx: Revolution q 2 weeks x 3 or Advantage Multi for cats or Milbemite Caution for ear cleaning for cats, may be best to avoid

A
Rare in cats
May be local or generalized
If Generalized need to look for causes of immunosuppression (ie FIV, FeLV, toxoplasmosis, diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus
Lesions: pruritic ceruminous otitis externa or focal patchy alopecia and erythema, scaling, crusts
Tx: underlying cause
Lime sulfur dips q 7 days till neg. skin scrapes
Not contagious to humans, dogs, other cats

Demodicosis in Dogs
A
Old dogs can affect paws Muzzle and personal Legs Dorsal and lateral trunk Pinnae - comedones on concave surfaces
Diagnosis: Hair plucking works in place of skin scraping, mites at end of hairs
Underlying causes: Cushing, lymphoma, atopy, hypothyroidism
Treatment: Amitraz dips, Ivermectin, Milbemycin, Advantage Multi
