Meaning: Uses sensory details to identify a person, place or thing.
Example #1: My best friend has glasses and a button up shirt.
Example #2: That dog had a vicious snarl as he was ready to pounce.
Term: Explain
Meaning: To convey what that topic is trying to say.
Example #1: I asked the teacher to go more in depth about what the assignment meant.
Example #2: The veterinarian gave me information on what my dog needed.
Term: Inform
Meaning: Its main purpose is to educate the person with knowledge about a certain topic.
Example #1: I was informed that I was eligible for college.
Example #2: Juan informed me that he was going to another school.
Term: Persuade
Meaning: A form of communication in order to motivate the other person to come to their side using the person’s emotions.
Example #1: The businessman convinced his colleagues to go through with his plan instead of his other co-worker
Example #2: He really showed me how it works. I think I’m going to buy it instead of the other product that presented me the same thing!
Term: Entertain
Meaning: The action of providing someone amusement or enjoyment.
Example #1: He really captivated the audience with his smooth talk.
Example #2: The man had the audience’s attention because of how he kept them amused.
