Meaning: Is something based on one’s opinions, perspectives, beliefs, discoveries, desires, and feelings.
Example #1: Purple is the best color

A

Meaning: The narrator is not involved in the action of the story.
Example #1: The princess from Tufar entered the room followed closely by the big man from Hemm. She walked with long steps, her arms close to her sides and her shoulders hunched.
Example #2: Hansel walked ahead of Gretel. Gretel dropped breadcrumbs behind her as she went.

Term: Participant

A

Meaning: Another character in the story, and not the narrator.
Example #1: As I reached the table with the birthday cake, I tripped on something and fell forward. The cake smashed into Amanda’s head.
Example #2: I stared into the green lake with eyes focused on the algae and crocodiles swimming around.

Term: Observer

A

Meaning: Presents the events of the story and the actions of other characters through their point of view and may participate in the events of the story.
Example #1: As I sat at the table and waited for cake, I saw Jeff put out his foot just as the hostess passed him
Example #2: As we kept playing monopoly, I saw that Anthony had more money than everybody else combined. I believe he is cheating so I called him out for it.
