Consequence so that a behavior is less likely to be repeated

What is the timing rule for punishment?
Punishment should be given quickly after unwanted behavior. Delayed response = less likely to work
What is the consistency rule for punishment?
Punishment needs to be consistent to be effective
What is the severity level rule for punishment?
MILD punishment is best, aggressive punishment will lead to other issues as stated before.
When can harsh punishment be used?
When you don’t care about the person and only care about stopping the behavior in that moment.
What is the counter conditioning rule for punishment?
You must reinforce positive behavior, not just give punishment
What rules for punishment does the death penalty violate?
Consistency and timing.
