Pavlov- Learning and Conditioning Flashcards
What is behaviorism?
A personality theory- says that personality is made up of habits. These habits are formed by our environment.
What is classical conditioning?
Training - where two stimuli are connected, so the subject learns to respond. Usually reflex.
What does classical conditioning focus on?
The antecedent (what happens prior to the event) - how the behavior is made .
Who is the maker of classical conditioning theory?
Ivan Pavlov (scientist)
How many stimuli are there in this theory?
Five
What are the three stimulus?
Unconditioned stimulus (US), Neutral stimulus (NS), and Conditioned stimulus (CS)
What are the two responses?
Conditioned response (CR) and Unconditioned response (UR)
Scenario: When dog was a puppy, you would show them a leash every time they were about to go on a walk. Now grown, every time they see the leash they run to the door, even when not going on a walk. What is the Unconditioned stimulus?
Going on a walk
Scenario: What is the Unconditioned response?
To run the door
Scenario: What is the Neutral Stimuli?
The leash
Scenario: What becomes the Conditioned stimulus?
The leash
Scenario: What becomes the Conditioned Response?
To run to the door when the dog sees the leash
What is extinction?
When the behavior stops because the reinforcer of the behavior is removed for some time. Ex. The dog stops using leashes to go on walks???
What is spontaneous recovery?
When the connection between the stimulus are made again after extinction.
What is generalization?
When a behavior learned in one situation is seen in similar situations. Ex. Dog runs to door when they see owner holding a rope
