Pulmonary Stenosis Flashcards
What is congenital pulmonary valve stenosis
usually valve conists of 3 leaflets, some can develop abnormally, becoming thickened or fused. This causes narrow opening between right ventricle and pulmonary artery
Diagnosis of pulmonary valve stenosis
Often asymptomatic so discovered on routine baby checks incidentally
Symptoms of pulmonary valve stenosis
More severe forms can present with fatigue, SOB, dizziness, fainting, palpable thrill, ejection systolic murmur, RV heave, raised JVP with giant A waves
Murmur in pulmonary valve stenosis
Ejection systolic murmur, loudest over pulmonary area
Management of congenital pulmonary valve stenosis
ECHO, watch and wait, balloon valvoplasty via venous catheter is treatment of choice if valve is significantly stenosed
What condition is associated with pulmonary stenosis
Noonan syndrome
