Pulmonary Hypertension Flashcards
Pulmonary Hypertension: Define
High blood pressure of the pulmonary arteries (Blood vessels from RA to lungs)
Walls of pulmonary arteries become thick and stiff and cant expand well. Reduced blood flow makes it harder for RH to pump blood. RH becomes overworked and weak. Heart Failure.
Pulmonary Hypertension: Aetiology:
Conditions affecting left side of the heart
Blood Clots which narrow/block pulmonary arteries
Lung Diseases which result in hypoxia.
Pulmonary Hypertension: Symptoms:
Palpitations Exertional breathlessness Extertional Syncope/Presyncope Chest Pain/Tightness Fatigue
Pulmonary Hypertension: Signs
Raised JVP Right Ventricular Hypertrophy - parasternal heave Right Ventricular 3rd Heart Sound Loud Pulmonary 2nd Heart Sound Hepatomegaly Ankle Oedema
Pulmonary Hypertension: Investigations:
