nitric oxide (Vianox)
Inhaled
via vent, NC, or mask

A

pulmonary vasodilator (arterial/ vascular smooth muscle)
decrease pulmonary vascular resistance
suppresses endogenous production if therapy is suddenly sopped
inhibits platelet aggregation
may worsen inflammatory response.
half life is 0.1-5 secs

epoprostenol (caripul)

A

pulm. Vasodilator
inhibits platelet aggregation

low flow SVN in ventilator circuit, IV infusion. Run SVN at 3 lpm
(PH is very basic must never be instilled into patient)

L-Epinephrine

A

sympathomimetic catecholamine– stimulates all sympathetic receptors

Causes upper A/W vasoconstriction= decreases edema, stridor or airway obstruction
cardiac stimulation

given via SVN or instilled
1mg/ml, use 5=10 ml prn

Mucolytic
breaks disulfide bonds holding mucous together
** thins out mucous

SVN or instillation
also used to treat acetaminophen overdose
