Making a person immune to an infection through vaccination
How exactly does a vaccine help?
A vaccine is able to boost your body’s immune (defense) system. Most vaccines contain a small amount of dead or inactivated virus or bacteria.
How does a smoke-free environment help with public health?
aggravates other conditions such as heart disease, liver disease, and emphysema
What has Ont. done to be smoke free?
May 2006, smoking has been prohibited in all workplaces and enclosed public places.
January 2009 prohibits car smoking with children present.
Why is it reccomended for people to wear sunscreen?
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can cause a mutation in a cell’s DNA which can cause skin cancer.
What type of screening programs does canada / ontario have?
Cancer, breast, colon cancer check, DNA
Why is it good to have screening programs?
to find/ catch diseases faster and to get rid of them before its too late
Why is Health Education Programs Important for public health?
Experts believe that education and awareness of certain diseases is vital to reducing the spread of it in the world. (example, covid)

The Public Health Agency of Canada works with each province and territory to support a sustainable health-care system.
Provincial (Ontario) - what are they doing
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides information on health strategies that are of concern to Ontarians.
Municipal Government - what ar ethey doing
(36) public health units in Ontario implement federal initiatives and provincial policies to support the health of citizens.
Eg. Immunization records for school pupils are kept by the ROWPH.
