What is type 1 trauma?
Trauma of sudden or unexpected nature.
A single event.
What is type 2 trauma?
Trauma that is repetitive - becomes expected.
Is the risk of PTSD greater in type 1 trauma or type 2 trauma?

In what situation does a freeze response present?
A distant threat or when the threat is inescapable.
What is a risk factor for PTSD development?
A small hippocampus.
What is an acute stress disorder?
A very similar condition to PTSD, however lasting less than 4 weeks.
What are the 4 categories of symptoms observed in PTSD?
Intrusive
Avoidance
Negative alterations in cognition and mood
Arousal/reactivity
How long must symptoms be present in order for PTSD to be diagnosed?
Over a month.
In addition to normal symptoms, what else is seen in complex PTSD?
Negative self concept
Emotional dysregulation
Chronic interpersonal difficulties
What % of PTSD patients have a psychiatric comorbidity?
Approximately 80%.
What is the first-line treatment in PTSD?
CBT
What is used to treat nightmares/sleep disturbance suffered in PTSD?
Prazosin
What antidepressants are given in PTSD?
Venlafaxine

Is therapy alone enough to treat PTSD?
No, there needs to be medical therapy too.
