DSM Criteria Part One
A
- Exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violence in one (or more) of the following ways: Directly experiencing the trauma; witnessing, in person, the trauma; learning that the trauma occurred to a close family member or friend (in the case of death it must be violent or accidental); experiencing repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic events (this does not apply to tv this applies to us or first responders)
- Presence of one (or more) of the following intrusion symptoms associated with the trauma, beginning after the event occurred: recurrent, involuntary and intrusive distressing memories of the event; dreams associated w/ the event; dissociative reactions (flashbacks) in which the individual feels or acts as if the traumatic event were recurring; intense or prolonged psychological distress at exposure to internal or external cues that symbolize or resemble an aspect of the trauma

A
- Persistent avoidance of stimuli associated w/ the trauma, beginning after the event occurred, as evidence by on or both of the following: avoidance or efforts to avoid distressing memories, thoughts or feelings about or closely associate with the trauma; avoidance or efforts to avoid external reminders that arouse distressing memories, thoughts or feelings close related to the trauma
- Negative alterations in cognitions and mood associated w/ the trauma beginning or worsening after the trauma occurs, as evidence by two or more of the following: inability to remember an important aspect of the trauma; persistent and exaggerated negative beliefs or expectations about oneself, others or the world; persistent, distorted cognitions about the cause or consequences of the traumatic events that lead the individual to blame themselves or others; persistent negative emotional state; markedly diminished interest i or participation in significant activities; feelings of detachment or estrangement from others; persistent inability to experience a positive emotion

A
- Marked alterations in arousal and reactivity associated w/ the trauma, beginning or worsening after the event occurred as evidence by two or more of the following: Irritable behavior and angry outburst; reckless or self-destructive behaviors; hyper vigilance; exaggerated startle response; problems with concentration; sleep issues
- Duration of the disturbance (criteria 2, 3, 4, 5) is more than 1 month
- disturbances cause clinically significant distress or impairment life domains
- not attributed to substance or another medical issue
